"Let Our Castle Be Your Home"
Main Floor
LIBRARY: This room is very much as it was originally, although it may have had wallpaper at one time. The outstanding feature is the molded brickwork of the fireplace and mantlepiece. It is the most impressive of the nine fireplaces in the house. All of the cabinetwork is original, and features an ingenious system of adjustable shelving. The light fixture, believed to be part of the original house, was discovered by an earlier restoration in the kitchen, all black with tarnish. When cleaned, however, it was found to be nickel -plated. Rehab and new wiring brought it back to a useable state.

CENTRAL HALL: This is a distinctive feature of the architects style. It serves as the focal point of the homes design. All the major rooms open off this Hall, and it even includes a coffin niche with fireplace, and an entrance from the porte cochere. The staircase, with its carved, harp-shaped newel posts is considered an architectural highlight, as are the inlaid borders of the parquet floors. It is unfortunate that a previous owner destroyed much of the banister and staircase when renovating the structure for apartments in the 1960s. The stairwell was originally noted for being a three-story open spiral staircase with no visible means of support. Thus, one could look down from the upper floors all the way to the first. The brass and crystal chandelier is at least as old as the house. It is solid brass, and at 80 pounds, quite a challenge to install.

PARLOR: The parlors most striking feature is the round front window. The fireplace tiles are believed to be original, and the fireplace is fitted for burning coal, as were most of the fireplaces in the house. The antique brass chandelier is French.

DINING ROOM: The formal dining room shows the rich woodwork that originally was also found throughout the central hall. The oval end of the room features curved windows (curved glass, too!) on either side of a magnificent carved mantelpiece. The other end of the room has a built-in sideboard with beveled glass doors. The intricate inlaid border of the floor is original and most unusual. The first floor rooms all have different inlaid borders.

The castle sits on a one-acre site, with streets on three sides. There is a large yard which can be fully lighted by party lights for evening functions. A wide variety of plants and trees can be found on the grounds. The large front porch is a popular spot for guests to gather for early morning coffee and late night conversation, or just to spend quiet time to gather your thoughts.
We must not forget the castle pooch "BOZO". Pictured below is the most personable dog this castle has ever seen.
